What Solar Actually Costs in North Wales

Aggregator sites quote ranges. Here is what a fitted system costs, what moves the price, and how long it takes to pay back.

September 2, 2026 · 6 min read · HSB Renewable Energy

Search for solar panel costs and most of what comes back is aggregator estimates and grant sites, rarely a price from a company that actually fits systems. Our domestic installations start from £4,320 fully fitted, and that from-price is a fitted system rather than a panels-only headline.

What the starting price covers: the panels and mounting hardware for your roof type, the inverter that converts their DC output to usable AC, electrical installation to BS 7671 wiring regulations, commissioning and testing, and the network notification to SP Energy Networks handled for you.

Panel count is the biggest single factor in what moves the price up. After that it is roof type and access, since slate needs more careful fixing than concrete tile and awkward access can add scaffolding cost. Inverter choice matters too: a hybrid costs more now but saves a replacement later if a battery is on your horizon.

Residential solar and batteries carry 0% VAT, a rate that runs until at least March 2027 and applies automatically. On payback, most North Wales installations return their cost in around seven to ten years. Every roof is different, which is why every quote is fixed and itemised after a free survey.
